Omid Tavakoli is currently academic staff of the School of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Tehran. He is further head of the National Bioeconomy Committee and Iran Bioeconomy Society. He obtained his PhD in 2004 from the Osaka Prefecture University (Japan) and collaborated with the Center of Excellence of the Osaka University as postdoctoral researcher up to 2008. He established the Green Technology Laboratory (GTL) and the Iranian National Algae Culture Collection (INACC) at the University of Tehran. His research interests include microalgae-based technologies, sustainable bioenergy and biohydrogen, commercial biotechnology, food and health biological products and biorefinery.
