Ahmed Fahmi is currently the Regional Programme Specialist in Natural Sciences in the UNESCO Asia Pacific Bureau in Bangkok, Thailand. Previously he was Chief a.i. of the Section of Innovation and Capacity Building in UNESCO. He led the UNECO-MERCK Africa Research Initiative and coordinated global programmes in Biotechnology and STEM research. He worked in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, on managing and coordinating the execution of the Science Policy program of UNESCO and was a visiting professor at the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan. Before joining UNESCO, he was a lecturer in Biochemistry at the University of London. He obtained his PhD in biophysics from the University of Cambridge.
