Alex Kyanbarongo is a veterinary scientist with a bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine (BVM) from Makerere University, and a certificate of Fundamental Principles in Molecular Biology from Vrije Universiteit Brussel. For the last three years, he has been volunteering with iGEM Foundation as the regional Ambassador program coordinator for Africa, and Just One Giant Lab (JOGL) as an African Ambassador. He has been involved in community biology, promoting synthetic biology, biotechnology research and innovations, and DIY initiatives in the African region and beyond. He is passionate about biosafety and biosecurity and was a 2021 Global Community Bio Fellow. Alex is currently working with Aanika Biosciences, a biotechnology company which tracks, traces, and authenticates products through the supply chain using microbial tags.
